The Fearless Leader The winds had a fearless leader, Aeolus. Aeolus was the son of Poseidon, and some say that he was also the son of Eos. Aeolus had six sons and six daughters. Aeolus was the leader of the winds and could do anything with the winds that he desired. Aeolus often was told by the other gods to release a wind when needed, but he also could control them. On some days if he didn't have an order from a god, he could decide to release a wind. If the gods did not like the decision that he made then he would be punished. The gods sometimes invited Aeolus to dinner, and one night Odysseus had to sail home. So then when Aeolus heard this he gave him a bag of winds and told him to release it into his sail. Some of Odysseus' workers got the bag, and they didn't know what the bag was used for. So, they peeked into the bag and out came the winds. |
